Winning art will be used in ads, postcards and posters to promote the Old Florida Celebration of the Arts in Cedar Key planned for April 3&4, 2027.

The Cedar Key Arts Center is pleased to announce the winner of the 2027 Old Florida Celebration of the Arts Design Contest. Congratulations go to Winston-Salem, SC artist, Kathy Cooper, for her painting titled “Postcard from Cedar Key.” The response to this year’s theme, Coastal Memories, was outstanding with 40 entries submitted by 21 different artists. A special exhibit featuring all the exception entries will be held at the Cedar Key Arts Center Gallery – date to be announced.
Kathy’s recollections of her creative path:
“My grandmother hooked rugs, my mother stitched bargello, my aunts owned a knit shop, so it was natural for me to gravitate to fiber art in college. I could not have planned this career or imagined it to last this long. I made a floorcloth for my kitchen and that little rug took me on a journey! My focus has always been to bring joy into a room with color and whimsy. Recently I started painting some of the places I have been. I think of them like postcards and I try to include my favorite memories. That is where my painting of Cedar Key came from.”
